Why we built this
Most European small businesses have websites that aren't fully compliant with GDPR, the European Accessibility Act, or basic security standards. Not because the owners don't care — but because web designers typically focus on design and functionality, not legal requirements.
The tools that exist are expensive, check only one thing (cookies OR accessibility OR security), and are built for enterprises. We built TrustYourWebsite to give small businesses a simple, affordable way to find out what's wrong — and exactly how to fix it.
What we do
TrustYourWebsite is an automated website scanner that checks your site across seven areas: cookie consent, GDPR/privacy, accessibility, security, image copyright, legal pages, and third-party data sharing. One scan, 150+ checks, results in 60 seconds.
Every scan includes a free health score and issue summary. For businesses that want the full picture, detailed reports with screenshots and step-by-step fix instructions start at €2,50.
Parts of the scanner are published as open source — the checks for security headers, DNS authentication and cookie consent are available on GitHub under the MIT licence.
Who's behind it
I'm Steven, and I've spent the last 15 years in technology development and consultancy. In that time, I've seen websites collect more personal data, load more third-party services, and face more regulation than ever. But the people responsible for those websites — from freelancers to small business owners — often have no idea what's wrong. They trust their web designer, but carry the risk themselves.
That risk is real. I've spoken with business owners who received demand letters of €2,000+ for a few unlicensed photos on their website. Photos their web designer had placed. I want to prevent that.
With rapid developments in AI, building websites is getting easier — but staying compliant isn't. New tools, new scripts, new tracking methods — it moves faster than regulation can keep up. And yet, as a website owner, you're the one responsible.
